All browsers allow you to export and import bookmarks from other browsers. Usually, it is an easy task using a simple menu system. Usually, the browser will prompt you to move them over from another installed browser.




How to Import or Export Edge browser Favorites to an HTML file



From the drop-down menu, select either Bookmarks HTML file(if you have an exported file) or choose the Browser(Internet Explorer/Firefox) you would like to import from.


Edge enables you to export your favorites as a HTML file. Using this document, you can integrate your collection of sites into any other browser or Edge installation whenever you wish.


Unlike other browsers, Edge does not currently support the ability to import bookmarks from an HTML file. This means you can't export your bookmarks from another browser (perhaps on another computer) to an HTML file and then transfer them over to Edge.


If you want to import bookmarks from an HTML file, you can do so by first importing them into a compatible browser (Internet Explorer, Chrome or Firefox). Then, open up Edge and import the newly imported bookmarks directly from that browser.


You can also import bookmarks that were exported in HTML format from Microsoft Internet Explorer, Netscape Navigator, OmniWeb, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome. And you can import passwords that were exported to a CSV file from a password app or another browser.


Unlike the export feature, Edge has allowed users to import bookmarks since its official release in 2015. Integrating favorites from other browsers or Edge installations on other devices therefore works with any Edge version installed on your system. Only the names of some buttons differ slightly.


The above guide has already shown that you generally have two ways to import favorites to Microsoft Edge. You can either integrate them from a previously generated bookmark HTML file or synchronize your saved favorite websites without using this kind of document. Generally, the latter option also automatically transfers additional browser data such as search history, cookies, and passwords. However, it requires the respective browser to support this feature and have it installed. We explain both solutions for importing bookmarks in the following sections.

There are two ways of import favorites from Microsoft Edge to Firefox. One is the have both of these browsers on the same computer. The second is when you have two different computers and try to merge the bookmarks in Firefox.


The above method will work seamlessly if you are having both Microsoft Edge and Firefox browsers installed on the same computer. In case of migrating to different computers or moving from Windows to Mac, then you need to first export favorites from Edge as HTML file and then import in to Mozilla Firefox.


Note this will be a HTML file you can use to import the favorites data on any modern browsers. We also recommend saving the file in removable USB or cloud storage so that it will be easy to use on different computers.


Although every internet user has their own browser functionality requirements and considerations, importing or exporting bookmarks, passwords, and history or saved data is certainly not a difficult task anymore. By following any of the methods explained in this article, you can simply import favorites from Edge to Firefox without any inconvenience.

It's the easiest way of sharing your Google Chrome bookmarks. The only limitation is you can't select which bookmarks you want to export. Google Chrome exports all the bookmarks from your browser. The recipient must import the same on their browser to view the websites. Unless you're migrating to a different browser or computer, this might not be the ideal way to share bookmarks with others.


When switching to another browser, you don't need to export Google Chrome bookmarks. Most web browsers like Microsoft Edge, Brave, and Firefox offer an import tool to move your Google Chrome browsing history, bookmarks, saved passwords, personal information, extensions, and open tabs. Modern versions of the Edge browser no longer stores favorites as files/folders the way you may be accustomed to, and instead uses an internal Extensible Storage Engine (ESE) database to store favorites. This database is not designed to be "human readable", so it takes specialized software to be able to do anything meaningful with it. So, this means that you can no longer use the File Explorer to manage your favorites.
